The timing won't make a big temp difference on that engine.
Chances are you have some air in the cooling system.
On a side note, there are some vacuum devices which "burp" air out of
cooling systems, which make them easier to fill. Anyone have one?
Can I just take an old pressure cap and hook it up to a vacuum pump?
Nick, check your cooling system for air captive in the head. A few
thermal cycles will help, but it would be better to somehow get it out
first. Chrysler puts a plug in their 4 cyl heads for this.
