Well, I got the test results from Dr. Dan's today on the 1980 Audi 5000S
diesel. The compression across the first 4 cylinders was around 350,but the
5th was at 50. A leak down test indicates that the return valve stem seal
is leaking.
I rebuilt the head about 800 miles ago, and just put in new injectors last
week, all new filters and a synthetic oil change. The tires have less than
2000 miles (firestones). The interior is in good shape, seats are comfy,
car is much more solid and quiet than a similar vintage VW. Sunroof works
and doesn't leak. Paint isn't pretty, but the body is solid, little rust.
It's a 5-speed transmission that is pretty fun to drive.
The front passenger side cv boot just recently tore. Odometer gear needs to
be replaced, but going by our records the car has less than 180K on it.
That's it. I've been getting 30-34 mpg with it for the last two years.
Right now it's having difficulty starting (compression), the glow plugs and
injectors are in good shape. It does start every time though, but the smoke
isn't good. Doesn't seem to be burning or leaking much oil. It's probably
gonna need to get that stem seal fixed, and i guess new rings. I don't have
the shop/capabilities to get into that. As much as I love this car, I'm not
able to pay a shop to get into it.

The car is in seattle. I'd like $1200 for it, and would consider it in a
trade for a reliable diesel. I've got a picture if you'd like to see it.

Thanks,
Chris
