They should have waited till 4/1/09 to announce this. I can only guess why the tax officials are not going after waste vegetable oil or WVO for road taxes. There are probably so few doing this that the cost of setting up a bureaucracy to collect the tax would probably cost more than the tax collected. As to sales tax, the restaurant already collects & pays the sales tax on the food prepared. In the past, restaurants had to pay someone to collect & dispose of the WVO. I read an article in a local paper here in Calif. a few years ago, wished I would have kept it, of a person who was running his Mercedes 300D on WVO. He realized he was not paying the road tax, tried to pay it & could not find a government agency that would take the money unless he wanted to make a "gift" to the State of Calif. It should also be noted that those who are driving electric vehicles are not paying any road tax other than their annual license plate fees.
