You can also try putting a pressure gauge on the cooling system and see if the pressure 
rises as the engine revs up.  You can also use the pressure tester to pump up the cooling 
system to help try and find where the leak is, if it only shows up under pressure.

They typically fail as the seal wears out and coolant starts leaking into the shaft area. 
  You'll find it leaking out of the weep hole on the bottom side of the water pump shaft.
