[Vwdiesel] Parts for engine swap needed/ salvage yard referrel and crane viewing

I am driving, round trip, from chicago to denver to visit my daughter and thought i would scavenge some
auto yards for several diesel parts. My project in process is to install a 1.6 td into an 86 cabrio. I have almost all the parts except the mount at the front of the engine., actually the IP bracket that came on the earlier rabbits with the same mount is what i am looking for . I thought it would be better to find
and entire motor and in so having all the nuts and bolts on hand and to see it once before i change things over. 
I expect there are some in Iowa that where under water for a bit of time.
also, does anyone know if the cranes have made it all the way north or whether they might
still be lounging along the north platt river nature area.
