The way I remember these engines, there was some cylinder head/gasket issues that were sort of fixed, but the true hard-core builders went studs and solved 99% of it permanently. I believe the pumps were a bit shaky, but calling an injection shop will get you all of those answers.
There is a small but fiercly loyal following for these engines still today, including the rarest (and to me most desireable) the 4.3 V6 with the GM corporate small bolt pattern (as in drop-in for S trucks and Square-o-kees)
