This sounds like outside door handle failure due to neglect of lubrication,
combined with Kiddie-lock feature disabling the inside door handle.
When the kiddie-lock lever (on the bottom edge of the latch assembly) is
toward the back of the car, the inside handle works.
When forward toward the front, the inside handle is disabled.
You can get at it with a thin screwdriver or a hacksaw blade by forcing the
side of the rear seat inward, and sliding the blade rearward to unlock the
kiddie-lock. It will require help from someone reasonably strong to fold the
seat aside, and there is the rubber door weather seal in the way too, but it
is soft enough to get by.
Examine the open rear door to see how it works. Sometimes they get hit by
things being loaded or unloaded, and accidentally moved to the lock position
