Speaking from experience, if you want power the what you have can get you
there, just need to invest a little more $$, basically what you would in
another vehicle/engine. Have the IP gone through by Giles from Superior
Injection also add a nice 2.5" down pipe from your turbo and run that size
all the way back. You will be amazed at how much a difference it makes.
There are some on the GTD forum getting close to 200whp out of these
engines, of course they are really experimenting with them but you can
easily get 100hp and it will make a big difference. Tony can tell you, he
got to drive my 91 ECO Jetta that has the Giles pump and 2.5" down pipe. I
also get 50mph if I want and on average 47mpg, I can also run all day long
with the crowd on the interstates with plenty of peddle left.

Parts place is great to find parts but they some of the people working there
don't know much. Some do but I have had problems at times getting the wrong
seals. Overall I would give them a B+ as I did get a new head that isn't
working correct. It was from the looks of is a newer head casting but
drilled for a 11mm block. Well, not all the cooling ports are drilled to
match so I have about 1/3 of my ports block off and it overheats with high
wind and/or hills/moutains. My fix is I will be selling the whole engine in
a couple of months since I need more power in the thinner air of Wyoming. It
was great for South Dakota and Minnesota but between the wind and
hills/mountains along with a really high geared tranny I will be putting a
1.9 TD aaz in. So anyone that wants in can contact me. The onlything wrong
is the new head needs a machinest to fix the problem and I just want more
power with that car. My rabbit truck has a slow enough tranny that I don't
power out I rev out. So this is what has been done. I bored it one size over
with new pistons rings and crack/rod bearings. New seals. New head (included
the valves, cam, etc). If I get enought I will include the injector pump
which I got from parts place rebuilt. It has an idle problem though (it
takes a second before it will idle after letting off. New gaskets including
a rubber valve cover gasket. New breather hose(only VW has those I found for
about $50) all told I have a couple grand into the engine and have been
running the amsoil oil and filter (25,000 mile oil change) I have put about
20-25 thousand miles on the engine but becuase of my location and my
graduation from college I can afford a bigger engine. So make an offer if
anyone wants. I will ebay or craigslist it otherwise. I will be fair and I
know I will take a lost. If I didn't want/need the power increase I would
get the head fixed myself. Also it has the rotary vac pump and I painted it
FORD red. My email is tgott at hotmail.com
