I had a problem similar. I thought my alternator was going bad as I had someone test while on the car. Tested bad so I replaced it. Didn't fix the problem (expensive on my part). When I would take it off the car and test in a machine it tested fine. I though the plug may have been bad so it a bit of a madness I just decided to cut the wires. Well nest to the plug 2 of the 3 wires cut, the 3rd pulled about 1.5 inches of wire out. Turns out after years of vibration it split the wire inside and it wasn't getting connection. I have a volt gauge on my cars and I had 12.5 about. So after fixing the wire my problem was solved.
