Timing tool looks fine. Dial indicator pictured is not metric, while the
desription states it is a metric one. Might want to be perfectly clear
on that before you bid. If you don't go this route, dieselvw.com has
the whole rig for 72 bucks including the tensioner tool, cam holder,
and pump locater. I haven't found a decent offset one for cheap however,
but I can borrow one when needed, so it's not that big a deal...
Only disadvantage with this timing set as with all the straight ones is
the vac pump gets in the way of the indicator, and sometimes you have to
pull the pump.
Regarding the oil pan, just hammer the pan smooth and weld it up.
Personally, I'd just wash it with soap and water, then brakleen or
contact cleaner, then mig it, stick weld it, or braze it with brass
depending on what you have on hand. If you have a stick welder, back it
up with a chunk of brass or copper to keep it from blowing through, use
small rods with low amps.
No offense meant to Shawn, but tig is kind of $overkill$ for the
application.
