What style vacuum pump do you have, the cannister shaped later style or 
one of the big funky looking earlier diaphragm style?

On a four cylinder diesel, the vac pump should be held by a small plate 
and a single bolt down at the base. My Dasher Bentley gives instructions 
on rebuilding the older diaphragm style pumps, I can post those 
instructions up here if that's your pump style.
