While it might have been advisable in the days before high tolerance engines
and synthetic oil, to change the oil early, there is a reason VW has set the
oil change interval where it is. Your car came with VERY expensive
synthetic oil that is formulated specifically for the oil change intervals
necessary for your engine. In fact, VW actually understates the mileage
because we here in the US have been sold a bill of goods by the "change the
oil every 3000 miles" quik lube places. My Mercedes diesel powered Jeep
Grand Cherokee has a 12500 mile oil change interval and many BMWs don't have
an oil change interval, they have sensors that read the oil properties and
mileage and then the car tells you when to change the oil. I have purchased
and driven many TDIs from new according to the oil change interval and had
no problems. Besides, you would be wasting a lot of good oil and money.

Subject: [Vwdiesel] early oil change 09 Jetta
Any ideas about an initial oil change at 1100 miles on a new 09 Jetta, all
vehicles I have owned in the past I have changed the new oil early as the
engine has broken in.
The owners manual states 1st oil change at 10,000 miles, I find this very
optimistic.
