[Vwdiesel] Turbo

On the turbo I would have it look at and possibly tested by someone. Do you really want to go cheap on a turbo when if that fails can destroy you block, pistons, head and everything else attached to them (depending on how the turbo fails). If there is one thing to not go cheap in it would be the turbo since it has to deal with very hot gasses at very high rpm and can send metal into your engine if it fails. Your seals may be bad but I haven't heard of a turbo that doesn't turn freely very often unless it is locked up or there is something in the bushing like buildup. Normally they turn to freely which is what causes them to wobble in the bushing and the turbine then could hit the side walls sending the metal flakes (or chunks depending on severity) into the intake. My rebuilt turbo would only spin maybe a turn or two if you tried to spin by hand as they aren't totally frictionless.
