[Vwdiesel] 97 Speedometer

They both work off pulsing signals. The speedo gets it's signal from a 
brown/red wire. Not sure about the tach off the top of my head. Having said 
that, The MK3's had problems with their instrument clusters. We've replaced 
quite a # of them so far.

If both of those are dead, I'd suspect something on the board itself, but 
you can check the tach quite easily. Just check if for power and ground with 
the key on, and check the feed wire for pulsing with a test light. If should 
flash with the engine cranking/running. Not sure about the color, but I can 
look it up if needed.
