One thing to remember on those other systems (at least on the
earlier ones) is that they run 6V glow plugs with a cycling controller
to heat them up quickly without burning out. Controller goes kaput
and so do all the glow plugs. Glow time is determined by V rather
than temp so have a loose alt belt, bad battery, connections or
weak alt. and up goes your glow time so more wear on the glow
plugs. 12V plugs don't usually see those type of systems, which
will shorten life if there's any seemingly unrelated problems.
