[Vwdiesel] I got the Rabbit all buttoned up, and...

I'm fairly sure that I've never messed with it. I've owned it for the past 8
or 9 years, though, and my memory isn't perfect, so it isn't quite
impossible...

But it's always run a bit rich, I guess. It's always had a little more smoke
that I would like to see. But before the past month or two I had never
thought of messing with that screw. It might have been a post on this list
or maybe some website I came across that was talking about the max fuel
screw. I bought the factory manual a few years back and read all through it,
but even that didn't click with me for some reason. Then all the stars
aligned and I realized that maybe that was what was going on with my car.
One big hint for me was that I had less power at full pedal than somewhere
nearer to mid-range.

I put new nozzles in it a couple years ago, and I had a heck of a time
getting them to seal up until the day we had to leave on our trip across the
country so I just resigned myself to lower fuel economy and had a spare set
of old but usable injectors in the tool box. 1000 miles later the suddenly
stopped leaking by themselves and have never had a problem since. I don't
think I'll ever skimp with rebuilding injectors again. WAY too much work to
do it yourself, at least for me. I'd rather not mess with it and pay someone
to get it done right. Well worth the extra $100 or so for the set.

So my injectors are fairly new, but I have 70-80k on the injection pump that
I know of, and probably a lot more. I've never rebuilt it and I don't know
much of the history from before I bought it.

The air filter was new not too long ago also, and they don't seem to get
dirty very fast for me. I guess I don't see too much dust, even though I
live on a farm on a gravel road.

But I'll keep those in mind as I keep driving it and I guess we'll just have
to see what it does! So far I'm *very* happy with the change, and even my
wife noticed that it gets up and goes quite a bit better!

Thanks,
Erik
