The automatics also have a shorter Timing belt interval. On the MK3's, the 
manuals went 60K for TB's, and the Auto's went 40K. Can't remember what they 
were on the MK4's, but they are similar, IIRC. Just something to keep in 
mind.

As for the engine swap, a word of caution. On a lot of the later model 
VW/Audi stuff the crankshafts are different from manual to automatic. I'd 
look at this one closely. I'ts not impossible to swap them, but it does tske 
some work and forethought. let me know if you want any specifics on what I 
did and perhaps some pics.
