Might be worth checking out the flasher relay.  On my '82 I recently has similar problems, 
blinkers would some times work normally, other times flash faster or slower than normal 
and other times either not come on or stay on solid.  Put in a new heavy duty, solid state 
flasher relay and all the problems vanished.
