[Vwdiesel] Clutch problems

Erik,
Can you start engine out of gear with no issue?
Does it shout at you only when attempting to put it in to gear?
You could start it on a slope and drive it locally, changing gear without 
the clutch and see if the gearbox is ok. Would only take a few hundred yards 
to check out, and would then tell you it's the thrust bearing/clutch plate 
only...
