Reminds me of the 1.9 I have in the parts pile that has a cracked crank that
occurred whilst machining the bellhousing off the car with the flywheel...
That was shaking, and screaming with every gram of off center mass to shut
it off and take it apart.  Sometimes it just isn't easy, the logical
diagnostic chain demands doing the big crappy bit of work first in this
case. It would be a shame to kill it off with diagnostics at this point. The
girl (not mine) that drove the parts pile 1.9td to destruction was not smart
like Eric's wife. The wise mechanic would exercise similar moderation...
