I wouldn't worry about all the air in the fuel line if it runs fine. As the car draws fuel it pulls the air from the filter down but the bubles don't go in the pump as much as they try to go upwards so it just looks like a steady stream. If it was steady then you couldn't suck fuel from the lower point (fuel tank) upwards with air in the lines so it is just accumulation at the highest point and the only way to really get them out is to pump them out. I put a hand fuel pump from a boat engine (from Walmart) spliced in the fuel line before the filter (on my truck it is by the tank and the car since there isn't as much room at the tank so I put it in the engine bay still before the filter). I then opened the relief on top of the filter to get as much air out that way till nothing but fuel came out. Then I opened the return bolt that the return line going back to the tank attached to and let fuel come out till it was air free (I took bolt all the way out). The hand pump works great for pump changes and fuel filters changes. My brother and I have put many miles on without a problem with them and they are cheaper then an electric pump ($12).
With the belt on the water pump. I don't know if the belt was so loose if your alternator and power stearing pump would work then. Depending on your engine My 1.9 AAZ engine had those things running off the belt and it had a spring and a locking bolt. So you just loosen the bolt, the spring goes out and you tighted the bolt again. My Truck just has the water pump and alternator and I have to loosen the bolt, uses a prybar to get leaverage to tighten the belt and then I tighten the bolt again. I would make sure your radiator isn't pluged and is working. May be worth your time to get that checked at a radiator shop. If your head gasket is bad they can check for fumes in the coolant for that. If your radiator has ever had a radiator stop leak put in it (or something like a coolant system leak fixer) then it may plugged the coolant jackets in the radiator. The impeller on the water pump may have erroded away. The water may not have been clean that was added to the system and it calcified. The baffel in the radiator that makes the coolant go through the radiator may be gone (as was in two of my "new" radiators). Most of the time a thermostate gets stuck open and not closed. The fan really doesn't need to even come on to cool the car most of the time so the fan switch is a rare problem. Is the hot coolant getting to the fan switch even. Does your heater work (dose it get hot), if not then that may be pluged as well. Just saying it could be a lot of things so before you take the head of I would find a good raditar guy. Also check the radiator cap. They are suppose to release at about 15 psi. If it releases to soon your system can boil over as well (again, had that as well).
Sorry for the long post. Just sharing my experience.
