No clip, just the Nut and Washer.  The is a VW Tool but a good sized two arm
puller will work fine.  Scares the hell out of you when it pops off.

My rebuild IP arrived today but I haven't been able to get the gear off the
front of the old IP. I have a small gear or steering wheel puller but can't
seem to get the IP gear off. Is there a special puller I need? Is there a
"C" clip that needs to be removed before using the puller?
