[Vwdiesel] fast blinking turn signal-typical causes?

I am having continuing issues with the left turn signal, brake and running lights on my 91 jetta.

currently the the signal is is blinking fast and if the front bulb is removed, the rear will not work

at all. It's function will stop completely if the harness is move some at the fuse box.

The right signal and emergency lights are functioning normally.

I am wondering what voltage i should see at the bulb socket and what might cause a diminished

resistance in the harness to create a fast blink situation.
