[Vwdiesel] Flashing glow plug light

I have no idea what the glow plug light is all about, but the revving sounds like the throttle assembly on top of the injection pump is sticking. Spray some lubricant down in there to loosen it all up. Also, check where the accelerator cable attaches to the gas (diesel?) pedal. There's a bushing in there that likes to turn to dust, and then things don't work quite right. I had the exact same problem, and fixing those two things cured the problem.

It will flash in between the green directional flash when you have the turn signal on. So you see green turn signal light, yellow glow plug light green turn signal light and so on. Also it will come on when you hit the brakes. Then intermintently it just flash on occasionally when you drive down the road. Could it be something simple, like just the relay?

It drives down the road great, but after you drive down the road and you come to a stop the idle races, if you shut it off and start it again it idles fine again. My mechanic said I need the injection pump rebuilt. I was wondering if it just needs to be driven for a while, because of the car sitting for 9 years before I got it going again.
