[Vwdiesel] I have an idle, but it dies on acceleration

  You can pull the return line and see how much fuel come out 
from the pump and injectors and ideally compare that to a 
running VW diesel, then you'll know if the vane pump is starving 
it out or not.
  If it's the vane pump then a tow start might help to get the 
rpm up farther than the fueling is allowing, keep it in a lower 
gear to get the rpm up while towing.  
  If the pump is putting out then I'd check for a rats nest in 
the intake or exhaust to start with, then go to the fuel filter, 
check the supply and return lines for restriction, etc.
