I've never seen one that was long enough. There's about a 2 1/2"
long extension that is screwed into the plunger (original tip is
unscrewed and removed first) to make it the correct length.
It sounds like you best recruit someone that can confidently set
your timing for you, at least once, and watch closely. It's something
that really needs to be set right.
The real, final, end result of "hillbilly tuning" is simply a fine
adjustment
of the timing after it's already at a known, good setting. In most
cases (nearly all) the factory fueling, timing, etc is spot on and
only compensation is being made for bad injectors, low compression
or even a little arrogance. ;-)
