35 here. I'm a newbie on the VW-Diesel list but I've been on the TDI list
for ages... because I have a TDI! :)

Automotive history:
Took my test on my mom's Hyundai Excel... talk about gutless!
first car of my own: 81 AMC Concord with matching parts car. Bought for
$200 in 1992 because the owner couldn't get it to start... just needed a
battery!
Then my first VW - 78 Rabbit gasser in beautiful Kermit green. Best $1150 I
ever spent. I put over 100k on it swapped in a new(used) engine, then sold
it to my sister, who then sold it to her friend... last I heard it was still
running.
77 Toyota long-bed
86 Audi 4000 CS Quattro - had 240k hard miles when I bought it and the
engine constantly sounded like it had a collapsed lifter, but that thing was
unstoppable.
91 Mitsubishi Galant VR4 - rally homologation special of the Galant with the
2 liter turbo and AWD from the Eclipse. A ticking timebomb.
And then my first new car, the 01 Golf GLS TDI that I still drive today...
with over 8 years and 150k miles!

I fell in love with the TDI when I took a ride in my maniac-friend's 96
Passat TDI in college, and I couldn't believe that it was a diesel. From
that day forward I wanted one, and eventually made my dream come true
(despite the best efforts of the dealer).
