Hello
I am 55. I started with a $200 79 diesel rabbit. A retired engineer told me that if I never went over 55, the car would last forever. I was religious about 55 for about 5 years. I was coming from Bakersfield and decided 70 would get me home quicker. The engine sang and got me home. The next morning one half of the car was grey, a greasy grey that smeared. It started right up but oil smoke came out of every crack in the hood. This car went to the junkyard. It took a while to find another one. I found an 84 rabbit for $500. It had a couple of dents but ran well. The rings went after about 6 years and it is still parked under a tree. About the time this one died, I found an Iltis for $2K. It was rusty but had a 1600 turbo and ran like stink. Everything worked on it including the snorkle. I could not figure out a legal way to register in in California. I called many people in the CA DMV. They all spoke in vague terms with no definite answer. I gave up on it. I did not need another yard ornament. I then found a complete 1900 turbo engine. It is going in the rabbit. I put a 1600 turbo on it but progress has stalled. Now that I am an old guy, it is much easier to chill under the trees with books and guitars than it is to work on vehicles.
