I'm 34, living in Houston for now. I started at 16 working for an independent foreign car shop, and learned a LOT there. That was in Missoula, MT. Incidedntly I was born in northern WI, Laona to be exact.

I currently have two VW diesels,
1982 Jetta 2-door clean, 1.6NA 5-speed.
1979 Rabbit two door, no engine or trans. Originally 1.5 4-speed.

I'm also a HUGE Audi nut. I have about 25 older Audi's, and my dd's are the Jetta and a 4000Q.

>I'm 41 - took my drivers test in my Dad's 82 Rabbit diesel. Hated that car (slow, loud, NOT COOL!!)... Then got out and was better able to calculate the dollars saved by that thing: less fuel, reliable, (relatively) easy to fix. Lack of power meant tires, brakes, clutch, and other wear components lasted much longer...
>I've since owned an 84 Rabbit diesel myself, owned 91 and 92 ecodiesel jettas, the latter now w/ 332,000 miles, 82 vanagon diesel (broken odometer many times; now estimated at 300,000 miles based on fuel usage), and have broken into this century with my wifes 09 jetta tdi (disappointing).

Live on 35 acres north of Milwaukee 30 miles from home, with my growing VW herd, a JD 70D, and a tolken Dodge truck. Plenty of miles to Milwaukee for work or kids activities!!
