This engine was tired. It had the oil breather tube routed under the car to disperse the blow-by better. It was a 1500 with no power, so it was floorboarded to accelerate. A friend had a 1500 that he cruised at 70+ all the time. His engine threw a rod through the crankcase. Amazingly enough, the car continued on slowly for about 2 miles to get him home. 
A cold snap here 35° and snow in central CA.
