[Vwdiesel] Has anyone heard any more about this 60mpg new TDI motor that

A few things to consider:

The current A4/5/6 cars have aerodynamic efficiency of which an A1 could only dream. However, they are also dragging around an extra half tonne!. But, the cost of being this green (and they ARE considerably better - most of all, they are good enough not to get diesels banned from the highways!) is indeed some more energy use.

Now, in their defense: my late Father-in-law was able to get 65 Imp. mpg all day long in the 1980 Rabbit (German built for our market, last year) that I got him in '81, but he drove it 55 mph as well. His darling daughter - who has dedicated the last 40 years to telling me to slow down - has NEVER driven her A4 Variant TDI anywhere near that speed outside (and mostly even INSIDE) city limits. No, we don't come anywhere near the 65 Imp (54 US) mpg that he always got, but we DO come close to 60/50 cruisng around 120kph (75 mph). That's over 1,100 kms/tank hwy. Go out and do that in a 1.5 NA Rabbit and tell me again what you are getting!

HAPPY NEW YEAR to all of my good friends in the webring!

May you be half an hour in heaven before the devil knows you're dead.

Pat
