[Vwdiesel] TDI vacuum pump question

Recently, I had to pull the vacuum pump on the 2000 TDI to do some 
work.  I installed it with a new seal, but now I have lousy power 
brakes.  I have one good stop but an immediately subsequent stop 
requires some leg strength.  The pump is engaged with the camshaft and 
worked fine before being removed.  The vacuum line leading from the pump 
is weirdly loose at the pump end, but it's supposed to be like this, 
yes?  Seems like it was always like that if I'm remembering correctly 
but it's been a long time.

I'll check the hose condition in daylight, but I thought I'd best check 
on the hose fit at the pump.

After a quarter million miles, I can tell that there are some things 
starting to wear......
