[Vwdiesel] TDI vacuum pump question

I assume you would have seen this when you did the pump, but on my car the
fat hose connecting directly to the pump split right along the hose clamp
and would work fine until I accelerated hard, which would cause the engine
to shift enough to open up the split and dump all the vacuum.
While fixing that issue, I noticed that the hard line going to the brake
booster was also split in such a way that I didn't notice until I started to
take things apart. I do remember it being weirdly loose, but I'm not sure
if that was normal or due to the split. I replaced it with a standard
rubber hose, which a lot of people have said won't work properly (the hose
would collapse under vacuum) but mine has worked fine for years.
Long story short I bet you've got a vacuum leak somewhere. At this point
it's probably prudent to replace all of the vacuum lines, which are probably
all getting brittle. This is one of the things that has been on my own
to-do list for a while now...
