[Vwdiesel] TDI vacuum pump question

That's exactly what it was.  I was adding coolant this morning and saw a dangling hose that I'd not seen looking at it in the dark.  I don't understand how the whole system works, but I also lost a bunch of power--something about the turbo boost being vacuum regulated.  I'd ordered an MAF sensor, but it's all good now.  More or less anyways.  I'll have to helicoil one of the engine mounts that got stripped out in the same process......

Long story short I bet you've got a vacuum leak somewhere.  At this point it's probably prudent to replace all of the vacuum lines, which are probably all getting brittle.  This is one of the things that has been on my own to-do list for a while now...
