Getting ready to tackle the Quantum's IP pump leaking from the rear. Bought a set of seals on eBay from a fellow in Georgia. From what I have gleaned from the seller, to replace the rear seal, you loosen the rear block from the IP, after removing the injection lines from the pump & injectors. You remove two bolts opposite each other & loosen the two others but leave them seated in the IP. You then remove the old "O" ring, then stretch the new one, after lubing it (diesel oil, motor oil, grease?) over rear block, insert the two removed & then remove the two reamining bolts to put the new seal in place. The vendor who sold me the seals suggested removing the IP so the rear of the IP faces upwards before doing this procedure. However, it appears to me that the way the procedure was described that the IP could be left in the Quantum, saving a good deal of time.
In respect to rebuilding the IP, the Bentley manual suggests not doing it unless you have special tools. The seal kit had a number of other seals. Any good simplified instructions for taking the pump apart & re sealing it?What special tools do I need? Also, is there any place where you can buy the rear "O" ring separately, for less?
