The inspection guys won't know this but you CAN replace a gas engine with a diesel here in NY. It's especially easy if the vehicle is pre OBDII................just do it and go to DMV and have your registration changed from Gas to Diesel before your next emissions inspection so the inspection computer doesn't come up telling the technician to do an emissions test.
If the origional vehicle origionally had OBDII, then the replacement engine MUST also be OBDII.
