The intermediate shaft pulley is the -big- one just below the injection 
pump. The intermediate shaft drives the oil pump and vacuum pump, and is 
the only timing belt driven pulley that does not have teeth. Unless some 
knuckledragger has applied too much brute force in removing it, an 
intermediate shaft pulley is good for life.

The timing belt is tensioned by the small pulley directly under the 
camshaft sprocket. There is a stud in the head that runs through the 
tensioner, which has an offset bolthole that lets you twist the idler 
around the stud to increase or decrease the tension on the belt. The 
special tools mentioned are the tensioner wrench, which has two pins to 
engage holes on the pulley, and a tool that measures the deflection of 
the belt to tell you when you're at the right tension.

I've never owned a Quantum diesel, nor worked on one that wasn't already 
smashed, so I can't help you with the wrench for the crankshaft pulley 
on the QTD.

Space appears limited due to the radiator which isn't the case on my Dasher. Should I buy these special tools & if so, where?
