I couldn't agreed more on the three things to do. I have only gotten a few vw diesel engines so I haven't had the machinest do the head part. I did get a new head with new valves and cam from parts place but that was a mistake as I have said on a few earlier forums. I do go with the thickest gasket as well and a belt is only $25-$35 so why wouldn't anyone change that at least if you dont know the history. Couple valves and you are past that cost if that is all you do plus labor. And the belt can't be that hard to change (not harder then a TDI) on a quantum or dasher.
