  Cooling air outlet is what I've always figgered it was.
I think 4K Quattros have 3 blade fans.  The 431 in the 
part number is often indicative of what model it's from.  
068 is diesel, 069 - 5 cyl or Audi diesel, 171 - Rabbit, 
111- Beetle, 211 Bus, etc.  That might help trace where 
it's from if it's not original.
  It could be that it's working but just comes on at a higher 
temp than the car runs with air going through it. (thermoswitch 
temp vs thermostat temp)  See when it's cycling in the driveway 
if it's at the "normal" temp or the higher temp. 
  I'd try cleaning the terminals, getting a little more crimp in the 
plug or such and see if that helps with the intermittent problem 
with the connections.  
  Yeah, I've heard about norma but not for some time now.  ;-D
