[Vwdiesel] Off diesel topic -possible converter clog symtoms

I'd check a few things before condemning the converter.

When it is acting up, have someone try to rev the engine up while you feel
the exhaust at the tailpipe. Is it just a feeble breeze and is what is
coming out hot enough to burn? If so, it may very well be the converter.

If you can remove the intake duct, watch it while someone holds the
throttole down. if a large amount of fuel vapor comes out, it might be a
plugged converter.

If you can get a vacuum gauge on the intake manifold, that's another way to
check. Low vacuum can indicate a restricted exhaust.

My hunch is that it's fuel-related and not a plugged converter.
