Just a thought but if you are idling it and it is hot the engine may not have enough speed to turn the water pump fast enough to get the hot coolant to the fan switch to turn the fan on and the hot coolant just kind of sits in the engine and doesn't really flow through the radiator like it should at idle. Just a thought.
