Ok Bill let's get you out of this mess, or at least find the problem!

1) Glow plugs do stay powered on for longer than the dash light.

2) Do you have a timing dial for the pump?
If yes then remove plug in middle of fuel line outlets and put in dial 
indicator. Check that
    i) You get dial movement when rotating engine by hand AND
   ii) Timing value is correct, being 0.047" OR 1mm at flywheel TDC.

Maybe you are not getting internal pump piston movement,, if so then 
something has bust :o(
