[Vwdiesel] More Quantum Questions?

Hi Bill;
When in doubt and the beast won't start I use a tow strap. My new 1983
Mitsubishi Might Max 4 wheel drive 2.3 diesel engine pickup that I just
bought and installed a head from my parts truck on wouldn't start. The
Mitsubishi 2.3 diesel has an almost instant glow plug system and a starter
that seems almost strong enough to turn the truck over. The previous owner
had cracked a head and removed it. I don't know how long that it set before
I got it. I installed a head complete with injectors in it from my parts
truck which hadn't been run for a couple of years. We tried all the standard
tricks to get it started but about the only thing it seemed that we were
going to accomplish would be to burn up the starter so out comes the tow
strap. About half a mile from the house the Mitz is running. After that it
starts like a champ.
I once was given a diesel Dasher that had set for seven years after the
guy had parked it because the engine was pretty much worn out. I was going
to change the engine and tranny anyway so I figured it wouldn't hurt
anything to see if it would start. The battery wouldn't turn it over at all.
We hooked it up to the tow rope and headed down the road. It was quite a
ways before it started to run first on a cylinder or two and eventually on
all four. It was an old worn out engine but towing will pretty much make one
start if there is fuel in the beast.

help me so I put a paper shop towel under the #1 injector line per 3 & 4,
turned engine over, no plop. Did not do #8 yet, i.e. check for plop on
2,3,&4 fuel lines.

the solenoid click. I again was able to pump fuel at the outlet side of the
IP. Could I do that if the fuel filter was plugged?
> With cam lock in place, both cam lobes point upwards & IP gear lines up
with marks at top of IP. How would I check for stuck IP pump valves &
correct, if stuck?
> No more money spent but will probably buy a few fuel filters, just to have
on the shelf if nothing else.
