SKC is a code generated by vw. Used to be, they used the VIN, and generated a code linked to the date that it was generated. You could use that code forever, as long as the entered date matched the skc. However, vw does it online between their server, and diagnostic tools now. Gets the $ back to the shop that way, rather than small non affiliates with VCDS (vag com) doing your special work.
