[Vwdiesel] swapping a good head - DIY head prep??

I have a rebuilt head on a brand new (1250 mile) rebuilt (new pistons
and everything) 1.6NA in the '82 Westfalia that is tapping valves. The
head been rebuilt a couple of times, so the machine shop won't build it
again.

I've also got the '90 Jetta 1.6NA with oil in #1 and #2 and a blown
headgasket (that hopefully just needs a ring job)

I want to have the Jetta head rebuilt and put it on the '82 Westy (high
priority not to break down). No problem there.

BUT, I've got this good head that I'm hoping to slap on the '90 Jetta,
along with some rings, and get it going as a beater.

I can't shave the head at the shop anymore.

SOOOOO... Can I just pull the "good" Westy head, clean it up and put it
on the Jetta?? Or is this not recommended?

I use a drill with the white 3M bristle disks for the block, they work
great. My neighbor mentioned rubbing compound and a sheet of glass for
the head??

(Of course we just got a first big dump of snow, so this project might
not happen for a while..)

Thanks,

Will in Alaska
