[Vwdiesel] More Quantum questions?

I can now get the Quantum to start, but not quickly. I advanced the IP so you get a stronger diesel "rattle" with the cold start pulled, less rattle with cold start pushed in. Found out the battery would fail fairly quickly so installed a fresh battery. Have to turn it over several times before it starts but then it does, it starts readily. The engine acts like it isn't getting fuel until it cranks over a while. I still have the electric fuel pump to assist. My Citroen CX diesel will start right away after allowing the glow plugs to glow for about 45 seconds to one minute, even after sitting for several months, but not the Quantum. I am wondering if one or more of the glow plugs could be defective. I am wondering what resistance a good glow plug should read after taking off the wire connector that connects to each of the glow plugs. Would the resistance be the same for my Mercedes 300SD? Someone said the Mercedes glow plugs are in series but it doesn't look wired like that like that to me. The Quantum is acting like a carbureted gas car that has sat for several months, having to crank it for a few minutes before it will start, as it there is an air leak somewhere.
