Reply to Mark Shepherd. Why didn't I use the original IP? Was told by Allen Diesel Energy, Yuba City, CA that after inspection, the original IP needed a complete rebuild at $600. However, the rebuilt pump, they reported, was not properly rebuild. They re assembled it correctly & bench tested it. Cost was around $220.They corrected the errors & had some kind of bench test they could do & & it bench tested OK. Apparently this bench test can duplicate the IP performance in the car. They said it was OK, didn't leak. The original problem with the original IP was leaking in the rear "distributor block". I tried to do the repair on the car, heard "something" drop but was able to replace the large "O" ring. Didn't run afterwards except after coasting down a steep hill & ran poorly. Allen Diesel Energy said "something" was assembled 180 degrees from what it should have been.
Allen Diesel Energy is willing to fix it if I bring the IP down but this is a good two hour round trip to Yuba City, so will see if I can correct the problem before making the trip. Since the IP is off the car, this looks like a simple 10 minute fix.
