[Vwdiesel] TDI BEW intake manifold flapper

That "flapper" is essentially a shut down valve.  When power to the  
engine is cut off, the flap closes and allows for a smoother shut down  
of the engine instead of the classic abrupt stop that diesels do when  
fuel is shut off.  Can't take it out because the computer is connected  
to it and will not allow the engine to operate properly without it.   
The BEW engines, have MUCH less problems of intake fouling than the  
earlier diesels.  There is a very different arrangement of  things  
that really cuts down on the presence of soot and oil.  BTW if the  
flapper becomes fouled with crude, the engine can be prevented from  
even starting as it is choked for air.  Hayden
