Just to add a potentially important point to what was said earlier - the
antishudder valve also serves the purpose of providing a failsafe to cut off
air and kill the engine in the event that it tries to runaway on engine
oil/blowby/blown turbo seal/etc. Not that it happens much on a TDI, but it
was not uncommon on older IDIs.
Loren - Mine's an ALH (not BEW), but with my chip I used to get boost spikes
as high as 30 PSI until I added a boostvalve, which limits the spikes to
about 20. Steady-state is in the 16-18 range. Sorry, no data on EGT.
