re: rear brakes wearing out faster - the A4 body cars do the same. I'm on
my 3rd set of rear pads (at 164k miles) but still plenty left on the
original front pads!
I understand that this is due to the brake proportioning valve, which
directs lighter braking effort only to the rear. In my case I do a lot of
engine braking and momentum-conservation, so I tend to not use the front
brakes much.
